#LakeDistrictBid Advent Calendar Day 12 - Because of the snow

Old Man Nov 12
OK, so snow in itself isn't enough of a reason to grant us World Heritage Site Status - but just look how pretty it makes everything!  The first proper snows have landed on the fells today and who can resist them when they look so lovely (of course if you can't resist them and you want to venture up there do make sure you go properly equipped, trust me, if it's cold in the valleys it's absolutely blooming perishing on the fell tops).

Talking of weather, we've had rather a lot of it lately.  It's heartbreaking travelling around and seeing so many homes still flooded out, and the rain today hasn't helped either - the community up here is really pulling together and those families are being supported during what must be an incredibly difficult time.  If you want to help, please take a look at the Cumbria Flood Appeal page to see how you can contribute time, money or materials.

The good news is that most of the major routes are open, as are the town centres - the worst problem roads wise is probably the A591 being closed between Grasmere and Keswick.  Both towns are open for business, you just can't travel between them very easily right now. (Please take a look at my #CumbriaisOpen blog for more info.)

As for the fell tops, well the Lake District National Park authority have put together this really useful short video - the message is that the fells are open - but do take a little extra care.

And so back to the snow - there is nothing more perfect that a fell top in the snow and if you don't believe me, just take a look at these beauties.
